Kā uri

Client: Ngāti Kuri Development Trust

Our client had a vision to create a space that would represent their three values:

Kā Uri, which covers the principle of igniting the identity within the people, connecting people to the understanding of the significance of the region and its many layers.
Kā Ora represents all aspects of well-being for the people, including strategies to ensure a better future for those yet to be born.
Kā Oho represents the care and protection of Ngāti Kuri cultural heritage, places, and events of significance.

FNR Construction Ltd completed the partial demolition and refurbishment of the former “Ancient Kauri Kingdom” building which was the home of sustainable, ethically sourced ancient Kauri. Along with the architect and client FNR created an award winning multi-purpose space which houses a contemporary styled café, retail shop, gallery, workshop, and multiple meeting spaces. Kā-Uri is now a must visit destination for local and international tourists. It marks the beginning of Te Ara Whānui, which leads visitors on their journey to Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga). FNR also successfully designed and constructed a 4500m2 asphalt and chipseal car park for Ngāti Kuri in Awanui. FNR completed design, earthworks, drainage, pavement construction, landscaping and concrete works all to a high standard.

The value of the entire project was over $7M.
